THE GAMES |
Year of release 1998 |
This is another classic Aussie comedy from the ABC, like Frontline and more recently Kath and Kim. It is the mockumentary masterpiece of Melbourne's Kiwi-born comedian John Clarke, whose alter ego Fred Dagg originally earned him fame in New Zealand during the 1970's. John Clarke plays John Clarke, head of administration and logistics at the Sydney 2000 Olympics organising committee. He must overcome many trivial obstacles in getting the event organised by 2000 while having a camera following him around. He leads a team that includes marketing and liaison manager Gina Riley, budgeting manager Bryan Dawe, and the Minister of the Games' secretary Nicholas Bell. Many of the events that happened in The Games happened a couple of weeks later in real life. By Michael Sergel. |
